Cain has a medium frame with a lean, athletic build. Frame projects to support additional strength while maintaining athleticism. Ran a 7.05 sixty yard dash. Primary shortstop clean footwork while moving to and through the baseball. Stays low while funneling the baseball out front. Worked through exchange efficiently and stayed balanced throughout. Released from a lower arm slot and created accurate carry to the bag at 80 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with a slightly crouched, even stance and simple front side trigger. Created some linear shift into contact with lower half. Loose hand path to baseball with a simple, line drive barrel plane through extension. Repeats swing actions well and showed good feel for the barrel. Primarily looked to work the ball to the middle of the field on a line, but showed the barrel control to work to all fields as well. Also pitched showing a simple side step to medium leg lift delivery. Stays balanced at gather and works to the plate with drop and drive actions. Released from a high three-quarter arm slot with a fastball offering that flashed occasional run to arm side in the upper 70's to low 80's, topped at 81 miles per hour. Curveball had 12/6 shape with loose spin and occasional depth. Generated sharp depth when maintaining arm speed through extension. Looked to challenge hitters to the bottom quadrants of the zone and induced weak contact. Very good student as well.
